Taper Fade Styles

Taper fades are what we do. Here's how the low, mid and high variations differ, who each one suits, and the exact words to use in the chair so you walk out with the cut you pictured.

Low Taper Fade

The fade starts just above the ear and hugs the neckline. Conservative, office-safe and the easiest taper to grow out cleanly.

Best for
Anyone who wants a sharp finish without a dramatic contrast.
How to ask for it
"Low taper, tight on the neckline, leave the sides with some weight."
Upkeep
Looks fresh 3–4 weeks.

Mid Skin Fade

The blend starts at the temple and drops to bare skin. Highest contrast of the three and the cleanest pairing with a lined-up beard.

Best for
Thick hair, strong hairlines and anyone who likes a bold shape.
How to ask for it
"Mid skin fade, bald at the bottom, blend into the beard."
Upkeep
Best re-cut every 2 weeks.

High Taper Fade

The fade climbs above the temple, leaving maximum length on top for pompadours, textured crops and comb-overs.

Best for
Styling length on top while keeping the sides tight in the heat.
How to ask for it
"High taper, keep the top long, texture it out."
Upkeep
Looks fresh 2–3 weeks.

Taper fade FAQ

What's the difference between a taper and a fade?

A taper is a gradual shortening of the hair around the neckline and sideburns. A fade is a taper taken all the way down — often to the skin — and carried further up the head. Every fade is a taper, but not every taper is a fade.

Which taper fade should I ask for?

Pick by contrast. Low taper for subtle and professional, mid fade for a balanced everyday look, high fade when you want the shape to stand out and length on top to pop.

How often should I get a taper fade?

Skin fades look their sharpest for about two weeks. Low tapers stretch to three or four. Most of our regulars book every two to three weeks.

Can I add a beard trim or design to the same appointment?

Yes. You can stack services in one booking — cut, beard, razor neck shave, kids cut — and we'll run them back to back with the same barber.
